Event Vendor Tipping Calculator

Most event hosts tip vendors 10-20% on percentage-based services (caterers, DJs, photographers, bartenders, florists) and a flat $10-$20 per person for delivery, setup, and wait staff - skipping the tip when the vendor owns the business. Use this calculator to get a recommended tip for each vendor and a grand total for your event.

Frequently asked questions

Answers to the most common questions about tipping party and event vendors.

How much do you tip a bounce house delivery driver?

A flat $10-$20 per delivery and setup person is standard for bounce houses and inflatables, with $15 being the most common amount. The tip is typically handed directly to the lead driver in cash when they arrive or finish setup. For very large or hot-weather setups, tipping toward the higher end of the range is a thoughtful gesture.

Do you tip the caterer if gratuity is already included?

If gratuity or a service charge is already on the catering invoice, you are not expected to tip again. However, many hosts still hand individual servers, bartenders, or the lead chef $20-$50 each as a personal thank-you for excellent service. Always read the contract carefully so you do not double-tip by accident.

How much should I tip a wedding or party DJ?

Tipping a DJ is optional but appreciated. The common range is 10-15% of the DJ fee, or a flat $50-$100 if you would prefer a fixed amount. If the DJ owns the company, a tip is not expected, although a generous host might still leave $50 in cash for an outstanding performance.

Should I tip a photographer who owns their own business?

No, you generally do not tip the owner of the photography business. Owners set their own rates and the fee already reflects what they want to be paid. For second shooters, assistants, or photographers who work for a larger studio, $50-$200 per person (or about 10% of the fee) is a generous tip.

Is tipping party rental staff expected or optional?

Tipping party rental delivery and setup crews is technically optional, but it is widely expected for jobs that involve heavy lifting, weather extremes, or precise on-site setup like tents and bounce houses. $10-$20 per crew member is standard and is one of the more universally appreciated tips in the event industry.
